Seafarer fibreglass boats have been produced in Australia since being founded by Doug Fry in 1957. Lindsay Fry (Doug’s son) sold the company to The Haines Group in November 2007 to keep it in the hands of an Australian manufacturer that would support the heritage of the brand.
Lindsay Fry grew up in the Seafarer factory, working on every part of the manufacturing process, then fishing and boating in his spare time. It is this background that made him one of the most insightful designers and builders in Australia. Production has now moved to The Haines Group in Wacol QLD alongside the production lines for Signature and Haines Traveler.
The 17 Model Range has stood the test of time with Seafarer renowned as the largest producer of fibreglass fishing boats in Australia. Seafarer was the first manufacturer in Australia of a deep vee fibreglass hull with the Vixen 13 footer in 1960. Designed in 1969 the Seafarer V-Sea became the biggest selling fibreglass fishing boat with over 2,000 hulls produced. The V-Sea remains in the Seafarer range today. The Seafarer Victory has accounted for over $10 million in sales and is still selling well. Seafarer is most proud of is its reputation for building boats that ‘don't break’, are ‘hard to wear out’ and ‘hold resalevalue’.
